The grapefruit diet offers four complete meals throughout each day. No panic as that deson't mean 4 grapefruits a day. A low calorie diet plan, you need to watch how you follow it carefully.
Meal 1 suggests that you have half a grapefruit, three eggs prepared in any style and two slices of bacon.
Meal 2 of the grapefruit diet recommends that you can have another half grapefruit, any piece of meat and some salad with any dressing.
Meal 3 offers exactly the same foods as meal 2 but add a cup of coffee into the meal.
Meal 4 of the grapefruit diet consists of either one, 8 ounce glass of tomato juice or one, 8 ounce glass of skimmed milk.
Most grapefruit diets vary and the duration can last from 7 to 21 days. Most have very low calories, sometimes between 800 and 1000 calories.
High quantities of caffeine drinks such as coffee are also permitted but these are to be consumed without milk and sugar.
One major advantage of such a dieting regime is that you will lose weight following this plan. It is also extremely easy to do. Grapefruits are fat free, low in calories and full of the antioxidant, vitamin C. Pink grapefruits also contain some beta-carotene.
The disadvantages of this programme include unvaried selection of available foods; not enough vitamins or minerals and mainly water based weight loss which will return when usual diet and calorie intake resumes means results are only temporary.
Low calorie diets can cause fatigue, nausea and constipation whereas too much fruit and vegetables can induce diarrhoea. Lacking sufficient nutrients for a healthy, balanced diet, such as iron and calcium which can lead to deficiency diseases including anaemia and brittle bones, this has flaws and doesnt represent an effective means to gain sustainable weight loss and control.
It goes without saying, from recent research, that Grapefruits may have weight loss properties especially as part of a strictly controlled diet plan. Of course that also relies on no sugar being dumped on the top before you eat it!
Low Calorie diet plans are always a risk for some and this is certinaly not for everyone.
